I was trying to explain the plot of 'Last Year at Marienbad' to a friend over coffee. I got about thirty seconds in before I realised I had absolutely no idea what was actually happening in that film. Neither did he, apparently. We just sat there in silence for a moment, then agreed it was probably brilliant.
