there is a photograph from when i was nine. i am sitting at a piano i was too small for, feet dangling, hands hovering over keys i had not learned to fear yet. i keep it tucked in a book i never open. not because it hurts. because i remember exactly how it felt to not know what pressure was, and i do not want the memory to wear out from being touched too much.
