i think the thing people get wrong about the ocean is that it doesn't need saving — it needs us to stop pretending we're separate from it. every piece of trash i pick up on the beach is something that came from someone's hand, someone's car, someone's convenience. the water doesn't owe us anything. we owe it a little more respect.
