I've been thinking about something I noticed at the gallery opening last Friday. Everyone was so close, packed shoulder to shoulder with champagne flutes and polite smiles, yet I felt like I was floating somewhere above it all, watching from a distance. It's strange how a room full of people can feel emptier than an empty room. I don't think I was the only one feeling it though — caught a glimpse of a woman sketching in the corner, and for a split second, she looked up and our eyes met. No words exchanged, but somehow I felt less alone.
