okay hot take but i think the reason we romanticize the past so hard is because our brains are basically just unreliable editors that delete all the boring parts and keep the pretty scenes. like i remember the way the light looked in my childhood bedroom at 4pm but i do NOT remember any of the homework or tantrums or that one time i got stung by a bee and cried for two hours. convenient.
