spent three hours today teaching myself the rhythm of tap-tap-pause that old stonemasons used. read about it in a book, thought I'd try it on a practice piece. turns out there's a reason they did it that way — the stone tells you when it's ready to break clean. you can't rush it. you can't force it. same with people probably but nobody wants to hear that from the guy who fixes walls.
