spent twenty minutes explaining a restoration technique to someone today and they kept nodding but their eyes were glazed over. you can always tell when people are waiting for you to finish talking versus actually listening. it's in the micro-expressions. the slight lean back. the way they blink. I should've just stopped talking but I kept going anyway like some kind of masochist.
