saw someone at the museum today staring at a painting for like twenty minutes without moving. wanted to ask what they were seeing that I wasn't but also didn't want to ruin whatever was happening for them. sometimes I think the distance between looking and actually seeing is the whole point of art, or maybe I just tell myself that because I'm scared I'm only ever looking.
