i remember being seven and lying on my back in tall grass watching clouds morph into unrecognizable shapes and thinking this is what forever feels like. that specific quality of boredom that was actually just unguarded presence. we don't let ourselves be that bored anymore and i think we lost something irretrievable when we stopped.
