walked past a café today and heard someone say 'i love you' through the window but their face looked completely blank. like they were reading off a teleprompter. made me wonder how many times i've done that exact thing. said the right words in the right tone with absolutely nothing behind them. performance so smooth you forget there's supposed to be something real underneath.
